It is a technical medical specialty aimed at preparing qualified graduates to operate various types of medical imaging equipment. Students study scientific and anatomical subjects, including:Radiation physics and radiation protection.Medical anatomy and radiographic anatomy.Medical imaging techniques (X-Ray, CT-Scan, MRI, and Ultrasound).

Study in medical technical colleges (both public and private) lasts for 4 academic years, after which the graduate receives a Bachelor’s degree.

The official job title upon employment in healthcare institutions is (Medical Technologist / Radiology and Sonography)

Important Note: According to the effective laws in Iraq (Medical and Health Grading Law No. 6 of 2000), this department is included under central appointment within the Ministry of Health. However, actual employment always depends on the state general budget and the ministry's needs in the graduation year.

Graduates can work in both the public (government) and private sectors in the following areas:Ministry of Health hospitals and emergency centers.Specialized radiology and sonography centers.CT-Scan and MRI units.Oncology and cancer treatment centers (Radiotherapy).
